WHO WE ARE

 

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent agency that provides economic, development and humanitarian assistance around the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States.
 
USAID/El Salvador manages the bilateral assistance program (United States-El Salvador) in the strategic areas of Democracy and Governance, Economic Growth, and Health and Education. In addition, USAID/El Salvador manages the Central America Regional Program, which includes programs in the areas of Economic Growth and Democracy and Governance.
 
In El Salvador, USAID’s assistance focuses on promoting democracy and good governance, expanding and diversifying the economy, contributing to healthier and better educated people, and helping the country to recover from disasters and the global financial crisis.
 
In Fiscal Year 2009* USAID invested a total of $60,606 million for several programs in El Salvador, as well as $9,313 million for regional programs throughout Central America.
 
* Fiscal Year in the United States covers the period of October 1 through September 30.
