This month, the USAID/OFDA-supported Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP) launched a small grants program to provide funding for disaster risk reduction (DRR) projects throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

The first grant awarded under the new program provided $30,000 to the Fundación para la Cooperación Costa Rica-United States of America (CRUSA) to implement an early warning system for forest fires in small communities near La Amistad International Park, in Costa Rica’s southern zone. CRUSA will match these funds and work closely with Costa Rica’s Ministry of the Environment to implement the $60,000 DRR project.
